for the public understanding of economics and entrepreneurship

Beloff Conference

Beloff ConferenceDATES: 14-16 September 2026

The Institute of Economic Affairs, in collaboration with the Vinson Centre, is pleased to announce the Beloff Conference—our upcoming residential programme taking place from 14th September to 16th September at the Vinson Building, University of Buckingham.

The Beloff Conference programme targets mature students (postgraduate students or students in their final year of undergraduate studies) with an interest in economics, public policy, and classical Liberalism.

This year, our Beloff Conference will explore the theme of migration through an interdisciplinary lens, bringing together perspectives from economics, history, philosophy, political science, and international relations. Discussions will examine the economic and fiscal effects of migration on welfare systems, the historical dimensions of migration, and the philosophical questions surrounding borders and movement. The conference will also consider migration’s geopolitical implications, such as the role of diasporas, the destabilising effects of displacement, and the extent to which Western political and economic influence contributes to contemporary migration patterns.

Background

The Beloff Conference is an annual three-day residential symposium bringing together some of the brightest young minds. Senior undergraduates and postgraduates are invited to apply and, for those offered a place, it is entirely free to attend – there is no charge for accommodation, food or materials.

The Beloff Conference is jointly hosted by The Vinson Centre for the Public Understanding of Economics and Entrepreneurship at the University of Buckingham and the Institute of Economic Affairs. It will take place at the University of Buckingham (Vinson Building) in September.

Participants will be studying or will have recently economics, politics or other social science disciplines. Only 15 participants will be selected for this highly competitive programme.
